Children will construct their own board shorts and make a bandana to match. They will be shown how to prepare fabric ready for cutting, stitch seams by hand and operate the sewing machine. They will thread elastic through a casing for the waist. Children will delight in their own handmade beach resort wear. The workshop will conclude with a fashion show.

In this class we shall conduct exciting experiments, in which we hypothesize, observe, make predictions, investigate, compare, create, experience, discuss and conclude. How is cheese made from milk? Why does popcorn pop? Why does bread rise? How is soap made? Can we generate electricity from vegetables? What makes a rainbow? Can we make colors disappear? Can plants grow upside down? In our quest to answering these questions we shall be measuring, weighing, learning about diagrams and creating a journal to record our explorations and findings.

Students in all grades will be able to cook food in the small, red kitchen at Willowbrook. Students will learn how to make appetizers, a main-course, and desserts. They will be able to learn measurement while preparing each dish. Students will create their own recipe book and a chef hat to wear during the week!

Welcome to the exciting world of gods, goddesses, heroes and monsters! Students will learn about Greek mythology, the Ancient Greeks and how Greek mythology relates to the modern world. Class activities including creating an original myth, performing short plays of classic myths like Pandora’s Box, making olive branch laurels and mythology related art projects. This class combines history, literature, art, storytelling and theatre in a very enjoyable way.

Learn how to play different sports, different games and be a great teammate. We'll run, jump, move, twist and of course, have fun! In this class, children learn how to create and maintain an organic garden - without the use of any chemical products. Children will learn how to keep away pesky critters with the aid of ingredients you will probably be able to find in your kitchen cupboard. We will make homemade bug traps, sprays from essential oils, worm tea, and will cover other organic garden practices such as composting and water conservation.

Experience what it feels like to help others! Give Back Camp will focus on various organizations within our area that need help. Whether it be a beach clean up through Surfrider Foundation, interacting with seniors at our community center, or preparing meals for the homeless you can experience and feel what it is like to make a difference in peoples lives. Students will meet in the mornings and become educated about what particular organization they are helping that day and get to work!!!We will experience a positive community feeling within our campus and outside towards others as well.

The main emphasis of this workshop is to have students learn French in with a fun and hands-on approach. Students will have the opportunity to learn French vocabulary, cook and sample French cuisine, and learn about the culture. Students will have the opportunity to paint, draw, and role play throughout the week.

4 week Theater Performance Wizard of OZ (1/4)Mrs. Applegate & staff

Come follow Mrs. Applegate down the yellow brick road as young thespians prepare a trip to the Emerald City and visit "The Wizard of OZ"! Musical Theater Workshop is an introductory class to live theater, acting and singing on stage. This class will begin with a vocal warm up and theater games. During this 4week session we will rehearse everyday from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. to put up 2 live shows for the entire school on the last day of class July 30th. This will be a very fun and exciting class for your little Ham that loves to perform or a good challenge for the shy type to come out of their shell and build up their confidence! All students must be present to all classes due to limited rehearsal time. Please plan on being punctual to every class. Your child will be required to memorize lines, memorize music and stage blocking. This will be one of the most memorable experiences for your child so please plan ahead and talk to your child about the commitment. 1st grade and up only. Parents are responsible for providing costumes. Clients continuing their monthly tuition, please add $100 for this class for props and set design. See you "Somewhere over the Rainbow"!!

The long awaited ocean camp has arrived! In this intense, physically demanding week-long session students will walk to the beach everyday to participate in an ocean program designed by Frau Heather, which includes waters safety, self-esteem building, swimming, recreational activities, marine/environmental awareness and visits to local eateries. This program is suitable for strong swimmers only!!! Clients continuing their monthly tuition, please add $75 to each ocean camp session. Students must be good swimmers as well as meet the grade requirement to enroll (entering second grade and up). Children meet at the Manzanita Campus in the morning and then walk to a designated beach for the day or take the local bus. During this time children engage in recreational activities and explorations of marine life. They also meet with professionals who are involved in the ocean community to learn about marine environment, water safety, and other relevant issues. Lastly, ocean camp includes trips to Gelato Paradisio and other tasty children’s venues. The bonding that takes place during this week amongst the students and the teachers is an invaluable and memorable experience. Missed days or weeks cannot be substituted or refunded so please plan your summer activities accordingly. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:. *Students must purchase a school rash guard *The YELLOW school rash guard MUST be worn each day of camp, no exceptions Your tuition covers treats, ice cream and bus fares. Students must bring a backpack for their lunch, sunscreen and towel. Please apply sunscreen before arrival and pack a bottle for reapplication throughout the day. Children must carry what they bring! Pack light! Ocean campers must bring a lunch every day. They may bring their boogie boards on Mondays’s and Wednesday’s! Bottled water is very important, however we greatly encourage students to refill their bottles everyday rather than use a new one; this helps reduce plastic waste and teaches children the importance of taking care of our environment. 2 week Movie Making and Story Telling (week 1/2)Mr. John

Mr. John’s filmmaking class is back again, but with even more exciting activities! In this intense 2-week class students will write their own stories, shoot their own films, and learn the skills of movie-making. We will learn about acting, cameras, writing, and of course telling a good story. We will look at scripts to see how they are written and produce our own short films. We will also examine movies as more than entertainment. Every child will work on several projects during our two week course and will receive a DVD of a collection of works finished in the class. This class will run from 9-3 (incoming Grades 3 and up)
Funny, Funky KnitsMs. Elisabeth

In this workshop beginners will learn the basic knitting stitch. Children who can already knit will go beyond knitting basics and knit and sew their own funny, funky pet snakes, kittens, ducks, rabbits, aardvarks and other animals. Boys and girls will build their own menagerie while enjoying an old craft that is being recognized for its calming and relaxing effect. Research is showing that knitting helps in academic areas as it builds neural pathways between the right and left hemisphere’s of the brain. The workshop will conclude with a pet show!

Mexican Crafts and Traditional GamesMaestra Veronica

Children will enjoy learning about Mexican culture by making easy fiesta crafts, party decorations and fiesta theme coloring pages. Some of the crafts use materials found around the house, like boxes, egg cartons, cardboard, paper, string, crayons, paint, glue, etc. Some of the wonderful projects students will be engaged on are: Piñatas from a paper bag and colored tissue paper, guitars using a box, rubber bands, and pencil, maracas with “papel mache”, and “papel picado”. Students will enjoy creating their own crafts

Come and learn how to cook/prepare healthy, tasty snacks that you will love. We'll talk about ingredients and how to read lables. What do all of those words mean on a label?! You're going to learn what you should and shouldn't put in your body. What can give you energy and what will make you tired. You'll stir, spread, roll, and eat!

In this intense, physically demanding week-long session students will walk to the beach everyday to participate in an ocean program designed by Frau Heather, which includes waters safety, self-esteem building, limited swimming, beach games, marine/environmental awareness and visits to local eateries. This program is suitable for children who have taken swim lessons and feel comfortable in the water. Clients continuing their monthly tuition, please add $75 to each ocean camp session. Students must be good swimmers as well as meet the grade requirement to enroll (entering second grade and up). Children meet at the Manzanita Campus in the morning and then walk to the designated beach for the day or take the local bus. They also meet with professionals who are involved in the ocean community to learn about marine environment, water safety, and other relevant issues. Lastly, ocean camp includes trips to Gelato Paradisio and other tasty children’s venues. The bonding that takes place during this week amongst the students and the teachers is an invaluable and memorable experience. Missed days or weeks cannot be substituted or refunded so please plan your summer activities accordingly. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:. *Students must purchase a school rash guard *The school rash guard MUST be worn each day of camp, no exceptions Your tuition covers treats, ice cream and bus fares. Students must bring a backpack for their lunch, sunscreen and towel. Please apply sunscreen before arrival and pack a bottle for reapplication throughout the day. Children must carry what they bring! Pack light! Ocean campers must bring a lunch every day. Bottled water is very important, however we greatly encourage students to refill their bottles everyday rather than use a new one; this helps reduce plastic waste and teaches children the importance of taking care of our environment. Ocean campers must be at school by 9:15 and will return by 4 o’clock. If your child is not here by the departure time another student on the waiting list will take your child’s place. There are NO early beach pick-ups or late drop offs. Please sign the Ocean Camp waiver in the front office.

Science is the name of the game in this class! Come into the laboratory and learn about the sun, engineer your own machines, discover the science of energy, and master the scientific process. In our week long course we will construct solar machines, build homemade science kits that the students can keep, answer questions about Earth, and discover the science of the world around us. Mr. John’s week long Photography class will be a look into the power of pictures. We will build a portfolio of work examining framing, composition, and energy in stills. We will travel around our school and city as well try and capture the amazing world around us in images that move us. In each case they will build up a portfolio and take home their work in a digital form as well as in several prints with art work. In this class we shall conduct exciting experiments, in which we hypothesize, observe, make predictions, investigate, compare, create, experience, discuss and conclude. How is cheese made from milk? We will paint,sand and paint some more to make it look special. We will use different colors painted in layers and then sand it to bring out the different hues.
